The blaze broke out in Stamford around 2:20 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 49 Brooklawn Ave.

First-arriving firefighters from the Glenbrook fire station arrived at the scene in less than three minutes and found a fire extending from the garage at the rear of the house and into the attic area, said Stamford Fire Department Deputy Chief Matt Palmer.

Firefighters made an immediate attack on areas of fire involving the garage and second floor of the residence and were able to place the fire under control within an hour, Palmer said.

One resident of the home was transported to Stamford Hospital for smoke inhalation, he added.

A total of 42 firefighters battled the flame including 42 career members and 12 volunteers.

There were no injuries to firefighters.

The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the family's immediate needs. Responders included: Tony Pan, Tim Rodgers, Heather Dunn, and Cheryl Engels.

The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items, and more, said Samantha Miller, of the Connecticut Red Cross.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies, and other items the residents might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire, Miller added.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
